Daily routine: hand care in winter

Back to Blog

Proper hand and nail care should not be underestimated, especially in the winter months. Our hands need a lot of attention not only because we use them almost continuously, but also because the skin is much thinner and less protected than the rest of the body. Hand on heart - who wears gloves conscientiously? And how many of us warm the freezing hands in the hot water?

Optimal day care and what must be avoided

Step 1: The first step, which unfortunately is often neglected, is to wash your hands thoroughly. This removes bacteria and prepares the hands for the subsequent moisturizing, just as we do with the facial skin. However, you should avoid large temperature differences. It is uncomfortable to have frosty hands, but trying to warm your hands under warm or hot water is a disaster. Because this dries out the skin and sometimes even scalds it. If you have ice-cold hands despite the gloves, wash them under lukewarm water and warm them up with a gentle massage with an oil or cream.

Step 2: To moisturize the hands, choose a cream that is appropriate for the weather and skin condition. Is it freezing? The sun shines? Are your hands cracked? And what does the nail bed look like? It is important to use the cream that is intended for the specific problem. Hundreds of different creams are currently  available on the market. We would like to introduce some of them to you.

Step 3: Treat your hands once or twice a week with a wrapping treatment and your nails with a calcium and silicon treatment. Apply a thick layer of moisturizer and let the treated hands relax in the care glove for an hour. If you do not have a suitable cosmetic glove, put a plastic bag over your hand and tie the bag with a kitchen towel or other piece of cloth. Although this method is not exactly convenient, it still provides comparable effects.

In the last part of the winter series Daily Routine we deal with the topic of hands and frost.
